3 great tips for night trampers

If you’re looking into driving jobs in South East England, you may be daunted by the prospect of night driving and long hours on the road. With the HGV industry in desperate need of drivers at the moment, finding work in the industry has never been easier, and the perks of the job have never been better. Even so, it is a demanding career choice in some regards, and to help you out we’ve put together three great tips for HVG night trampers. Have a read at our 3 great tips for night trampers.

1. Get creative with your culinary choices

It’s easy to fall into the trap of eating nothing but fast food while you’re on the road. It’s not the healthiest way to eat, and it can get astonishingly boring, not to mention expensive. It also makes driving for long periods uncomfortable, especially when you don’t know where the next toilet stop will be! If you’re driving at night, a poor diet will also seriously damage your energy levels. To avoid this pitfall, do some simple shopping before you hit the road. Staple items such as bread, rice and pasta and tinned foods like soup, baked beans and spaghetti and sausage are great. If you have a fridge, stock up on meat and veg as well as ready meals, pasta sauces, and milk. Once you have milk, cereal and porridge are easy options! You should also invest in a good supply of cereal bars and healthy snack bars.

2. Keep yourself entertained

Be sure you have plenty of things to keep you entertained, so you don’t get bored. If you can, invest in a portable TV/DVD player, and take a good stock of films with you. Books, music, puzzles, and games are also great. If you enjoy writing, pack a lot of notebooks and pens and knock yourself out! The radio is your best friend – learn which stations are funny and which are soothing.

3. Exercise whenever and wherever you can…

You’re going to be sitting in your cab for long periods of time and when you stop for breaks you’ll be tired. Even so, make yourself walk about as much as you can, get some fresh air and stretch your legs. It’s bad for you to spend all day sitting and it will help your circulation and joints to move. It will also stop you developing pain that keeps you awake while you’re trying to sleep (and we don’t want that!)
