Class 1 HGV Driver – Containers (Days & Nights)

Location: Chelmsford
Pay Rate: £16.00 – £19.60 per hour (PAYE)

Job Overview

We are currently recruiting experienced Class 1 HGV Drivers to support container transport operations based in Chelmsford. This role is available on day and night shifts and offers competitive pay rates, consistent work, and the opportunity to operate a modern fleet.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and timely transportation of containerised goods, maintaining high standards of professionalism and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Driving & Deliveries
• Operate Class 1 (C+E) vehicles transporting containers to and from designated locations
• Ensure safe loading and unloading of containers
• Meet scheduled delivery and collection times efficiently

Safety & Compliance
• Carry out pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Comply with all road traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies
• Accurately complete driving hours, mileage, and delivery documentation

Customer Service
• Maintain a professional and courteous manner when dealing with customers
• Address delivery-related queries or issues in a timely and effective manner

Vehicle Care
• Report defects or maintenance issues promptly
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and general upkeep

Requirements

Essential Qualifications
• Valid Class 1 (C+E) HGV licence
• Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card

Experience
• Minimum 1 year Class 1 driving experience
• Previous container transport experience preferred
• Knowledge of container terminal procedures is advantageous

Skills & Attributes
• Strong understanding of UK road safety regulations
• Good route planning and navigation skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
